Many national school-leaving qualifications are accepted directly for some courses; others are better suited to a Foundation Programme first. English Language Requirements

Most courses ask for IELTS 6.0–6.5 overall (or an accepted equivalent such as TOEFL or PTE Academic), with higher thresholds for more competitive courses and universities. Some applicants — depending on their country and medium of school instruction — may find a university willing to waive this requirement; others will need to test regardless of how strong their English genuinely is. How Requirements Differ by Study Level

• Pre-Sessional / English Language courses — the lightest entry bar, since the course itself builds the English and academic skills needed for further study.

What to Do If You Don’t Meet Requirements Directly

Not meeting a specific course’s direct-entry bar isn’t the end of the option — a Foundation Programme addresses an academic qualification gap, and a Pre-Sessional English course addresses a language gap. Neither is a downgrade; both are genuine, common routes that a large number of successful UK students use.
