The UAE is unusual on this site in one specific way: what matters for your application isn’t really “the UAE” as a country, it’s which curriculum your school followed — and in the UAE, British, American, Indian, and other curricula all operate side by side, often more commonly than the Emirati national curriculum itself, especially among the country’s large resident international community.

Your Qualifications, Recognised

British curriculum (A-Levels/IGCSE) and American curriculum (High School Diploma, often with AP courses) are both common and well recognised for UK direct entry — assessed the same way they would be from the UK or the US. IB Diploma schools are also common in the UAE and equally well recognised. Emirati national curriculum graduates are recognised too, generally assessed more conservatively, with a Foundation Programme as the standard route for most. English Language Requirements

Because British, American, and IB curricula — the routes most UAE-resident applicants to UK universities actually come through — are all English-medium by definition, many UAE-resident applicants have a strong case for an IELTS waiver at a meaningful number of universities. Funding and Payment Considerations

The UAE Dirham is pegged to the US Dollar and relatively stable against Sterling compared to several other markets we cover, which simplifies budgeting somewhat. Proof of funds documentation is still worth preparing early and clearly, regardless of currency stability — most UAE-resident applicants are self- or family-funded rather than relying on a national scholarship scheme, so this is worth planning for directly with your family.

Results timing depends entirely on your curriculum: British curriculum A-Level results follow the UK’s own August release; American curriculum results and AP scores follow the US calendar (May exams, July score release); IB results are released in early July.
