Study in the UK from Nepal

Nepal sends more students abroad per capita than almost any other country we work with, so if you’re weighing up a UK degree, you’re in good company — and there are a few genuinely Nepal-specific things worth knowing before you apply, starting with how NEB +2 is actually assessed by UK universities.

Your Qualifications, Recognised

NEB +2 (National Examinations Board, Grade 11–12) is recognised by UK universities, but is generally assessed closer to GCSE/near-A-level than a full A-level equivalent — the practical effect is that a Foundation Programme is the standard, reliable route into a UK bachelor’s degree for most NEB +2 holders, rather than direct entry. If you studied A-Levels or the IB at one of Nepal’s private international schools, direct entry becomes considerably more realistic — tell us exactly what you hold.

English Language Requirements

Nepal’s education system is mixed — Nepali is the official language, but many schools (particularly private ones) teach substantially in English. IELTS waivers are possible at some universities but far from guaranteed — plan to potentially sit IELTS or an equivalent test, and we’ll confirm the specific position for your university shortlist.

Popular Subjects Among Nepali Applicants

Funding and Payment Considerations

Budget with a buffer for Nepali Rupee movement against Sterling rather than a fixed snapshot rate. Proof of funds documentation is one of the most common points where visa applications from Nepal stall, so start assembling this early — sponsor documentation in particular is worth getting right the first time. Chevening is a genuine postgraduate funding route worth researching directly; unlike several other countries on this site, Nepal is not a Commonwealth member (it was never under British colonial administration), so Commonwealth Scholarships don’t apply here — worth knowing so you don’t spend time on a route that isn’t open to you.
